Having your teeth cleaned regularly by a dental hygienist is highly recommended – every six months for adults, and once a year for children.
This will allow you to keep your teeth healthy and prevent gum disease. “Prophylaxis is the cheapest and most pleasant dental treatment” – this is a saying that everyone who tends to put off teeth cleaning should remember.
Professional teeth cleaning takes about an hour. During the procedure, the hygienist cleans the teeth of hard and soft dental plaque, tartar and various stains caused by drinking wine or smoking as well as improper oral hygiene. After having your teeth cleaned professionally, they may become whiter. Oral infections and dental plaque result in microorganisms that cause inflammation accumulating in the mouth. As we get older, these infections lead to gum disease, such as periodontitis, which destroys the connective tissue that holds the tooth in the jaw, causing teeth that look perfectly healthy to lose their stability. Professional teeth cleaning prevents the spread of infection in the mouth and reduces the risk of gum disease; it also leaves you with an incredibly fresh and clean feeling in your mouth.
After your teeth and fillings are cleaned, they are polished with special pastes.
If you experience a lot of discomfort when having your teeth cleaned, we can use local anaesthesia.
Important: On the day that you have your teeth cleaned, avoid food and beverages that can stain, such as coffee, wine, beetroot and brightly coloured fruits and juices.
